Hey everyone,
I wanted to share my latest build that went out the door today. This is a pretty straight forward 000 12-Fret that I call my "Antebellum" model.

Top: Bearclaw Spruce (Alaska Specialty Woods)
B&S: Ziricote (eBay)
Fingerboard & Bridge: Ziricote

The Inlay on the back of the neck is done in Quilted Maple, the Fleur De Lis on the bridge is hand cut from Koa, and the little stick figure near the end jack is the owners company logo that is hand cut from MOP. This was my first bound sound hole, which I did in plain maple.

Thanks for looking!

Exceptional result, the bridge design especially cool....

Chris, I think it's beautifully conceived and executed. I'm so glad I clicked in to have a look. Everything about it seems like such a perfect complement to every other little thing about it. Two things that particularly struck me: The neck inlay seems to echo the sap wood in the back seam in a very tasteful way. The sculpted bridge is beautiful and elegant. I got so lost in the gorgeous craftsmanship that I almost forgot I was looking at a sound machine. I mean that in the most complimentary way. Congratulations!
Patrick

Very nice Chris. Very tasteful. A lot of bling, but not overdone.

It's always so humbling to hear such kind words from the people here on this forum above all others. I wouldnt be half of the luthier that I am without the knowledge and advice I've gained from this amazing group of builders. With that said... On to the next one, where I can hopefully improve on this mousetrap!

I'd like to ask this question from those with first hand experience...

This guitar is almost identical to one I made about 6 months ago, with the exception that the previous instrument had African Blackwood back and sides. With all other aspects being identical, this Ziricote guitar has significantly less "Balls" on the open low E through G than the ABW model. I also find that the Ziricote model is quite a bit more mid heavy in its overall sound and even a little louder. To my ear, I much prefer the ABW guitars sound. I've looked over my notes and can't seem to find much in terms of dimensions or wood deflections that make this that different of a guitar. Do you think that the ABW is the main contributing factor in the "Ballsyness" :D of that guitar? Is Ziricote more likely the factor in the sound of this newer guitar?

I know that there are an immeasurable amount of factors at work here, and that two identical instruments can have a different sound, but I figured I'd throw it out there for debate. Thanks again my friends.

A great combo of woods and some great workmanship Chris! It is a pleasure to look at. If the tops and how you treated them, thickness and bracing wise, are identical, I would say play the crap out of them. Sitka does take a bit of playing to bring out the best. My 2 pennies.

Cheers,
Danny
